Single-family home in Abtenau, Austria
Solar energy in all its facets
A brine-solar heat pump enables the Aichinger family to achieve a solar harvest for their low-energy house (Abtenau, Salzburg province, Austria) that was not possible before (e.g., via diffuse irradiation). The harvested energy preheats the heat transfer medium from the ground collector. Compared to a conventional heat pump system, this saves half of the require energy.
The concept involves 20 m² of thermal collectors. Their angle of 70° assures high efficiency during the heating period. Especially low reflux temperatures from the brine heat pump circuit and concrete core activation provide for an annual harvest of 540 kWh per square meter of collector surface. The degree of utilization is increased by storing the solar harvest in the accumulator of the foundation plate. The process of concrete core activation is a fixed component of the technological concept.
In addition, a controlled ventilation system recovers heat from exhaust air and assures high comfort via hygienically correct air exchange. This provides comfortable living space with low energy costs.
