Property protection

Good burglary protection can spare you lots of problems. The right choice in windows and doors (hardware) and appropriate outside lighting with motion detectors are important steps. Protective plants and burglary aids such as ladders and boxes provoke break-ins. Full mailboxes indicate that no one is home. Watchful neighbors can be the best security.

Additional measures

Windows (see section Windows, doors, shading)

  • Burglary protection for windows includes roller shutters and grates; roller shutters are available in multiple forms.
  • Glazing that stifles breakage helps to secure your house. This includes wire-mesh glass, single-layer safety glass, bonded safety glass and safety insulation glass. A special foil can also be retrofitted.
  • Special security hardware can be retrofitted for windows and doors. Be sure to select lockable window handles.
  • Garage and basement windows and light bays can be equipped with steel grating.
  • Protect windows and doors with contact wiring.

Doors (see section Windows, doors, shading)

  • More than half of all burglaries occur via the front door, often with a key copy.
  • Weak points for doors include hinges, fold in double doors in old houses; security locks help.
  • Only high-quality locks and security hardware can protect against violent entry.
  • Hinges and hardware should not be screwed on from the outside.
  • Locks with security cylinders and security keys (no copies possible) are recommended.
  • Special security provisions are available for balconies and terraces.
  • A key placed under the welcome mat or in the flower pot is easy to find.

Alarm system

  • A large range is available on the market. Consult an expert.
  • Door answering systems can be combined with video systems.
  • Protect your valuables with a safe.
  • Complement mechanical provisions with an electronic system installed by alarm specialists.
  • The variants are outside primary security and room monitoring.
  • Ensure that the alarm system does not prove to be a burden. High-frequency fields and ultrasound are considered biologically questionable.
  • • Passive infrared systems are well suited for room monitoring.

Security via lighting

  • A lighted yard generally discourages burglars.
  • A combination of motion detectors and an alarm system makes sense.
  • Also consider lighting for the entrance area and terrace or balcony. Adequate lighting not only protects your property but also helps to avoid accidents (e.g., steps) and provides comfort.

Make things as difficult as possible for burglars.
