Savings contracting
In (energy) savings contracting the energy service provider analyzes the energy situation in an enterprise and compiles measures to increase energy efficiency and to reduce energy costs. Based on current energy consumption (baseline determined from energy consumption of the past three years), the savings goals are guaranteed in the contracting agreement. Depending on specific contract, the energy service provider can assume the following services:
- planning and execution of savings measures
- guaranteed achievement of savings goals
- operation and maintenance of systems
- prefinancing of measures
- training of users
The energy-saving measures are refinanced via the achieved savings during the lifetime of the agreement (generally 5-10 years). After contract termination the energy savings benefit the client.
Examples of common measures in savings contracting
- optimization of heating controls
- installation of energy-efficient lighting or optimization of lighting
- optimization of ventilation and cooling, heat recovery
- optimization of room temperature
- rate optimization
- insulation of facades, top and bottom ceilings; replacement of windows
- improvement of pumps, motors, drives
- transition to renewable energy
- introduction of energy management
- utilization of process (waste) heat (air, steam, etc.)
