Kofi Annan at ENERGY GLOBE Gala
An unprecedented gala sensation is slated for Brussels. On May 26 the ENERGY GLOBE will assemble the worldwide political elite in the Plenary Hall of the European Parliament. World statesman Kofi Annan will stand side by side on stage with European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pöttering and EU Commissioner Manuel José Barroso to present awards. Likewise the head of the Slovenian parliament, Janos Jansa, is expected. Other potential honored guests include Mikhail Gorbachev and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
ENERGY GLOBE Jury Head Maneka Gandhi will be coming from India along with Bollywood star Aamir Khan, who enjoys billions of fans in Asia and around the world; Khan will present the award in the category Earth. Leanne Liddle gained a reputation in Australia as a defender of the rights of aborigines and a campaigner for an intact environment; at the gala in Brussels she will present the award in the category Youth. The charming moderator Désireée Nosbusch will accompany viewers through the evening.
Funk and Soul with Zucchero and Dionne Warwick
A dual dose of hot funk and soul will adorn the gala finale with a performance by Italian rocker Zucchero and the great soul lady Dionne Warwick. Warwick will also present the award for the Americas in the category Fire.
The organizer of this event is the Upper Austrian environmental firm GEG Agency. With this event, the company also casts the international limelight on many innovative Austrian technologies. For ENERGY GLOBE founder and GEG Agency CEO Wolfgang Neumann, the telephones are near meltdown: “This top event highlights the most important topic of all. We began in 1999; today the ENERGY GLOBE is the most prominent environmental award worldwide and enjoys the highest esteem,” comments Neumann.
Winners from nearly 90 nations
The true heroes of the evening, however, are the ENERGY GLOBE winners from a field of 109 nations. Most of them will accept their award personally in Brussels.
The environmental Event of the Year will be covered not only by the world press; likewise large international TV stations will broadcast the gala into the living rooms of billions of viewers.
